Pool companies in Vaughan, and how to tell them apart

Why Vaughan pricing behaves differently
Vaughan has a high share of custom-shaped and freeform vinyl pools, which adds liner measurement and fitting time. Ask for a shop drawing before you approve a replacement.
The shape problem is real. A rectangle has four measurements and a constant wall height; a freeform pool has a curve, often a built-in step, sometimes a raised wall or a spillover. A liner is cut from a measurement taken on site, so every one of those features is extra time and extra risk if the measurement is off. That risk is priced into the quote whether or not the company explains it.
Ask for the shop drawing. A company that will not produce one before cutting is asking you to accept the risk on a five-figure order.
Four things that change a Vaughan quote
| What you have | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Freeform and custom vinyl shapes | A liner is cut to a measurement, not a template. Ask for the shop drawing and the measurement date before you approve the order. |
| Older Woodbridge pools | Pools from the 1980s and 1990s often need wall repair alongside a liner. Ask what happens if the wall is soft once the old liner is out — and what that costs. |
| Estate lots in Kleinburg | Long carries and gated entries add time on every visit. A company that quoted from a satellite image has not priced the access. |
| New builds in Concord and VMC | Heater and pump connections are the regulated part. TSSA for gas, ESA for electrical, and bonding that an inspector will actually check. |
What the work costs in Vaughan
Openings run $400–$690 and closings $420–$715 before HST. Both sit slightly under Toronto, largely because access is easier on Vaughan’s wider lots — the labour is the same, the carry is shorter.
Liner replacement is $5,200–$8,900 installed for a standard rectangle. Custom shapes, wall repair and water hauling are quoted on top, and on a freeform pool with a built-in step the number lands at the top of that range before anything else is added.
Ontario does not license pool contractors as a trade — what is regulated is the gas work (TSSA), the electrical work (ESA) and the pool enclosure by municipal bylaw. So the paperwork is the licence: a certificate of insurance at $2 million commercial general liability, a WSIB clearance certificate in the company’s legal name, and a business number that matches both.
Our sweep found more pool businesses operating in Vaughan than in any other GTA city. Those companies are recorded as unverified prospects in our data, not as listings — the methodology explains what that means and what we check before a company is published.

Planning ranges before HST, not quotes. Shape, access and wall condition move the final number.

Liner checklist
Before you sign a Vaughan liner order
A liner is made to measure, so every question below has to be answered before the order goes in — not after the truck arrives.
- 01
Shop drawing issued and signed by you, with the measurement date on it.
- 02
What happens if the wall is soft or the coping is loose once the old liner is out — priced, not “we’ll see when we get there”.
- 03
Water hauling included or extra, and where the old water goes under Vaughan bylaws.
- 04
Gauge of the liner stated in millimetres (20 mil ≈ 0.5 mm is standard, 27/28 mil is heavier).
- 05
Labour warranty in writing: how long, what it covers, and who honours it if the installer stops trading.
Vaughan FAQ
What Vaughan homeowners ask first
Comparing other cities? Toronto hiring guide covers the same paperwork ground.
What does pool liner replacement cost in Vaughan?
A standard rectangle runs $5,200–$8,900 installed before HST. Vaughan has an unusually high share of freeform and custom-shaped vinyl pools, and a shape with multiple radii or a built-in step takes longer to measure, cut and fit — expect the upper half of that range on anything that is not a plain rectangle.
Why do Vaughan pool quotes differ so much between companies?
Two reasons here more than elsewhere: shape and access. A freeform pool needs a shop drawing before a liner is cut, and a lot in Kleinburg or Maple with a long carry from the street adds labour that a Woodbridge bungalow with a side gate does not. Ask each company to state the shape assumption and the carry distance in the quote.
Do I need a permit to install a pool heater in Vaughan?
The gas connection must be done by a TSSA-registered technician regardless of permit requirements, and electrical work by a licensed ESA electrician. Ask the company for the registration number of the technician doing the connection and keep it with your invoice — your insurer may ask for it after a claim.
When should I book a Vaughan pool opening?
Late March to early April for a May opening. York Region routes fill quickly because the same crews cover Vaughan, Markham and Richmond Hill, and the first weeks of the season are usually held for repeat customers.
